Individual Note: BIOGRAPHY
Bill Gilmore was a Farmer at Allora on the Darling Downs of
Queensland. The farm was called "Temuka" after a small town in South
Canterbury, New Zealand. This town was close to Geraldine and
Woodbury where his wife Alice was born.

Louisa was a Nurse at the old St Helens Hospital in Christchurch in
her younger days and then lived with her sister Everina at
"Thornbank". She never married. When Everina died, she went to live
with her niece Dorothy and her husband Gerald Stoddart on their farm
at Lincoln. She later lived at Churchill Courts in Christchurch until
her death.

William Emerson Gilmore was killed On Active Service while serving
with the RAAF.
His record is as follows:-
Service No 8685
Enlistment date. 5th February, 1940. At Laverton, Victoria.
Date of death. 14th October, 1944.
Posting on death. 78 Squadron.
Rank. Warrant Officer.
William Gilmore was a Pilot with No 78 Squadron flying P40 Kittyhawk
Fighters in the South West Pacific and the Dutch East Indies. There,
they operated from Hollandia and Noemfoor Island. It was, while flying
a Mission from Noemfoor, that William was shot down somewhere near
Kawai Island. No trace was ever found.

Alice Ruth Heatley was the last of the children of Daniel Montgomery
and Louisa Heatley. Her mother died three weeks after her birth.
Following her marriage to Bill Gilmore, Alice moved to a property at
Allora a town in southern Queensland, Australia. They called the
property "Temuka", which was the name of a town in South Canterbury,
not far from Woodbury and Geraldine, New Zealand. This was the area
that the Heatley family had grown up in.

Chris Reeves was a farmer at Kyogle. He joined the Army on the 4th
August 1942. He was Discharged 22nd March 1944 with the Rank of
Corporal with the 102 Australian General Hospital. It was during the
war years that he met and married Hazel Payne, who was a Army Nurse.

Ella MacKnight was created a Dame for her services to Gynaecology. She
was an Obstetrician as well as a Gynaecologist at Queen Victoria
Hospital in Melbourne. In 1998 a Memorial Scholarship was set up by
her family for research to be conducted in Australia or New Zealand.
