Individual Note:
     BIOGRAPHY
George Leech was a farmer from Ealing, an Island on the Rangitata
River, north of Woodbury. He was also a shearer and moved around the
country. His brother Thomas was also a farmer at Ealing. It is
possible that the two brothers had farmed in partnership. The Leech
brothers had a Flax Mill and a Flour Mill on their land. The younger
brother Charles asked George to come home and help look after the two
mills. It is known that three of the family were born at Ealing.
George John 26-3-1888, Charles William 26-9-1889 and Ina Geraldine
12-2-1892. They must have moved to Rangiora, where they lived in a
house at the Flax Mill. Maurice, Emerson and Eva were born there.
Prior to 1900 they moved to "Thornbank" near the Flour Mill. Dorothy &
Langton were born at "Thornbank". The house was not called by that
name before they bought it. It is believed that Everina chose the
name. The property had a good orchard and a extensive vegetable
garden. There was a long gravel driveway leading to the house with the
orchard on one side and a large lawn on the other with plenty of large
trees all around. In the center of the lawn was a large Redwood tree.
It was still there in the year 2000. George Leech suffered badly from
Arthritis and was confined to bed for 15 years.
